概要	This article analyzes interviews with 25 Japanese men who participated in study abroad or working holiday programs, exploring how learning a foreign language and international discourses influenced their decisions to go abroad and shaped their lives since returning to Japan. While prior research has focused mostly on Japanese women, often portraying men as uninterested or only pursuing international sojourns for instrumental reasons, this study finds that English learning and connection to the international were pivotal in these men's motivations. Their experiences highlight the complex Japanese male perspective on study abroad, challenging the view of it as primarily female oriented, and reveal an enduring emotional link to English and English speaking communities.
